Options to Purchase Your Books

As you prepare for classes, we wanted to remind you that as a student of one of the Alamo Colleges, you are under no obligation to purchase textbooks from a college (university)-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook(s) may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer. Don't forget to look through the rest of the site for more helpful information for SAC students.

Tips

Before calling a bookstore or sending an email to search for a book, you should know the
course and section number.  You may also need the title, author, publisher, edition, copy
and possibly the ISBN number.

If possible talk to the instructor or read the course syllabus to make sure about your book needs.
Do not ask the bookstores for the ISBN number over the phone.  If you can’t find out
from your instructor, go to the bookstore and get it yourself then comparison shop afterwards.
If you want to order a book from an online source, most require a PayPal account or a credit card.

It is recommended that you use a PayPal account so that there are no problems or security
issues with using a personal credit card.

Order as soon as possible!

Before ordering a book online, find out from where it is being shipped.  If it will be delayed, can you take the chance to get it late or after classes have started?  It may be cheaper in price but farther away means it’ll take longer to get to you.
