Step 1: Start Early and Plan Ahead
Even though you may plan to spend your first two years here at San Antonio College you should begin investigating universities as soon as you enroll. Counselors are available to help you to define your short term and long-term goals. They can advise you on course placement or course sequencing, especially if you plan to earn an Associate Degree before transferring. Select courses that transfer easily. Remember your grades are important from the start and your transfer GPA is cumulative so make every grade count.
Step 2: Choose an Institution
Talk with a counselor from the Counseling Center regarding your plans and options. Obtain degree plans and course equivalency guides for the major and universities you are considering. Utilize the catalogs, computers, and transfer related materials in the Transfer Center. Your first factors to consider should be: Availability of Majors, Location and Size of University, Public or Private University, Tuition Costs, Financial Aid, Scholarship Information, and Student Housing.
Step 3: Research Your Options
The more you know about your school choices the sooner you can decide if that is a good fit for you.
Talk to a University representative. Additional factors to consider: Admission Requirements-GPA Requirements, repeated courses, grades of “D”, minimum/maximum transfer credits accepted,
tuition costs, and class size.
Step 4: Get Organized
The transfer process involves the following deadlines: Admissions Application, Transcripts, Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Housing.
Apply for graduation if you are planning to earn your Associate Degree
before transfer.
Step 5: Develop Your Plan
If your first transfer university is highly selective you want to have a secondary transfer plan.
Remember it is never too early to start planning!
